Homeowner Grant Programs

City of Dawson Senior Home Owner Grant Program
The City of Dawson provides a grant to home owners who are 60 years of age or over.  To be eligible for the Senior Home Owner Grant the property owner must
  • be a property owner who on or before July 2nd of the year for which a grant is provided has reached the age of 60 years.
  • be a property owner who owns a single residential dwelling in the City of Dawson and occupies the dwelling as a private residence for a minimum of 270 days of the 365 days immediately preceding the date of issue of a real property tax notice.
Grant Amount:

The amount of the Senior Property Tax Home Owner Grant payable to a Property Owner who is a Senior Citizen shall be the lesser of:

  1. $200.00 (Two Hundred Dollars), or 
  2. Current real property taxes minus the minimum tax levied on any real property classified as residential.
Apply:
Application for the Senior Home Owner Grant can be made from the date of issuance of the tax notice up to and including September 15th, provided that payment in full of all real property tax demands for the property to which the grant applies was received by the due date.

Yukon Home Owner’s Grant Program
Property owners may be eligible for a Yukon Home Owner’s Grant. The Home Owner's Grant reduces the amount of property tax you pay for your principal residence. The main residence is the only portion of a mixed-use or agricultural property that is eligible for the Home Owner's Grant. 

Grant Amount:
Eligible individuals can receive up to 50% of the property taxes owing on their residence to a maximum of $450 and subject to a $100 minimum tax. Eligible individuals 65+ can receive up to 75% of the property taxes owing on their residence to a maximum of $500.

Eligibility
Apply for 1 grant each year if you:

  • are a Yukon home owner;
  • have paid property taxes in full; and
  • lived in your home for 184 days (6 months) of the tax year.

Mortgage Company Payment: If your taxes are being paid through your mortgage company, and you would like them to pay your taxes LESS the Home Owner Grant amount, the form must be submitted by June 10, 2020.
