Camping within City Limits
Camping is only authorized in areas that have been designated as a campground. Camping may be allowed in residential areas of the City, provided the camping unit i.e. tent, motor home, fifth wheel, etc. is not parked, or partially parked on any public road, street, lane or sidewalk, and provided the property owner has given permission.
Note: Tents in contravention of the Camping Bylaw may be seized along with all the contents contained within. All tents seized are subject to a removal and storage fee as prescribed in the Fees and Charges Bylaw.
Dilapitated and Unoccupied Buildings
- No person shall cause or permit a building to deteriorate into a ruinous or dilapidated state that the building or structure:
- is dangerous to the public health or safety; or
- Substantially depreciates the value of other land or improvements in the neighborhood.
- No person shall permit an unoccupied building to become damaged or to deteriorate into a state of disrepair such that the building is an imminent danger to public safety.

Junked Vehicles
No person shall cause or permit any junked vehicle to be kept on any land owned by that person.
"junked vehicle" means any automobile, tractor, truck, trailer or other motor vehicle that: (i) either: (a) has no valid license plates attached to it; or (b) is in a rusted, wrecked, partly wrecked, dismantled, partly dismantled, inoperative or abandoned condition; and (ii) is located on private land, but that:
- is not within a structure erected in accordance with any law respecting the erection of buildings and structures in force within the City; and
- does not form a part of a business enterprise lawfully being operated on that land;

Maintenance of Yards
Untidy and Unsightly Property
No person shall cause or permit any land or buildings to become untidy and unsightly due to graffiti or the accumulation of new or used lumber, cardboard, paper, newspapers, appliances, tires, cans, barrels, scrap metal or other waste materials or junk.
Property within a residential area as defined by the Zoning Bylaw is not to be used for the storage, repair, cleaning, maintenance, collection or servicing of equipment such as bulldozers, graders, backhauls, loaders, cranes, tractors, semitrailers or a combination thereof, or other similar heavy equipment.
Yard Maintenance
- A yard must be kept free and clean from:
- a) Garbage and junk;
- b) Junked vehicles and dismantled machinery;
- c) Holes and excavations that could cause an accident;
- d) An infestation of rodents, vermin or insects;
- e) Dead or hazardous trees;
- f) Sharp or dangerous materials; and
- h) Accumulation of appliances, parts and accessories.
- A yard must be graded in such a manner so as to prevent:
- a) Excessive accumulation of water; and
- b) Excessive dampness accumulating near buildings or structures.

Outdoor Storage of Materials
- Any building materials, lumber, scrap metal, boxes or similar items stored in a yard shall be neatly stacked in piles.
- Refrigerators left in a yard must first have their hinges, latches, lid, door or doors removed, if in use it shall be securely locked.

Noise
Noise nuisance is defined as, "everyone who makes or causes noises or sounds in or on a highway or elsewhere in the City which disturbs or tends to disturb the quiet, peace, rest, enjoyment, comfort or convenience of the neighborhood or of persons in the vicinity."
Construction equipment, light work equipment including tractors, lawnmowers, shall not be operated between the hours of eleven o'clock at night and seven o'clock in the morning (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM) in residential areas except with the permission of the Bylaw Enforcement Officer.

Parking
In accordance with the Traffic Bylaw, parking regulations are enforced in all areas of Dawson. Please note that all vehicles parked on private and public property, including rights of ways, must have proof of valid registration displayed on the vehicle at all times. Vehicles parked in contravention of the posted parking regulations will be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.
Parking in excess of 24 hours on City streets is prohibited in all areas of Dawson, with the exception of private property.

Requirements for Smoke Alarms
Pursuant to the Fire Protection and Life Safety Bylaw, the owner of every building used for residential occupancy shall install and maintain in proper working order, at least one smoke alarm in each dwelling unit and in each sleeping room not contained in a dwelling unit.
Snow Removal
Everyone has a duty to maintain their property in a way so as not to affect the health and safety of others. Snow removal from your roof and boardwalk is required during the winter months. Removing the snow and ice from your boardwalk is mandatory after every snowfall. It is also prohibited to deposit snow and ice upon any street or sidewalk in such a way as to create a safety hazard.
