Historic Resources Permits

Development in the Historic Townsite and Historic Resource Permits

A historic resources permit is required for any proposed exterior alterations and/or alterations of a character defining element of a Municipal Historic Site. They are also required for development on sites listed on the Heritage Inventory that do not meet the threshold for a development permit.

Historic Resource Permits are assessed against the Design Guidelines for Historic Dawson, the Standards and Guidelines for Historic Places in Canada, the Heritage Management Plan, the Zoning Bylaw, and the Statement of Significance.

Development Permits for sites that are not listed as a Municipal Historic Site or on the Municipal Inventory, but are located within the Historic Townsite, are assessed against the Design Guidelines for Historic Dawson, the Heritage Management Plan, and the Zoning Bylaw.

The Heritage Advisory Committee (HAC) assesses Historic Resource Permits and Development Permits for sites in the Historic Townsite. More information about the Heritage Advisory Committee can be found here.
